“Skin Cancer” is a serious illness and one of the scariest diagnoses that anyone will ever hear from their doctor! Thanks to modern medicine and all the billions of dollars spent on research, today most cancers are treatable if detected early! There are many successful treatments that can place the cancer into remission and in some cases permanently eliminate it…Amazing! It is also important to know that a diagnosis of skin cancer does not always mean you have Melanoma.
One of the most severe types of Skin Cancer is Melanoma. Although it is serious, if diagnosed early, it may be curable! VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW: Melanoma grows fast so early detection is critical!
A Skin Cancer Screening performed by one of our experts here at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Specialists of Northern California starts with a visual exam of the skin.
During the screening, we check the skin for such things as birthmarks, growths, moles, and other blemishes or spots. We look for unusual sizes, shapes, textures, or colors. By looking for these features we can help to detect and diagnose Melanoma.
The two most common types of skin cancer are Basal Cell (BCC) and Squamous Cell (SCC).
Once the skin is examined and an unusual growth is found, a biopsy will be taken to determine if it is cancerous and what type of cancer it could be. Once a diagnosis of cancer is given, we will develop an individualized plan for treating it.
If you have a growth that you are concerned about or if a new skin growth appears on your body that is irregular in size or color, get checked by a trained Dermatologist right away.
There is no need for concern until the trained professional examines it and determines the type of growth it is. Once Cancer is determined, the appropriate actions can be taken to remove it or to treat it accordingly.
